This kokeshi was made by a very famous artisan, Yusa Fukuju. Born on 17 March 1930 in Miyagi Prefecture on a family of traditional Naruko artists. This doll was made in 1953, a little before the young Fukuju abandoned the family tradition to devote himself to creative sosaku kokeshi, with which he won many prizes.
