From spontaneous trips into nature to the small outdoor moments of everyday life, open-air living is full of possibilities, wherever you live. A weekend of camping, a picnic in the park, a quiet moment on the balcony or terrace at home, a peaceful afternoon by the water, or simply some time under a tree doing absolutely nothing. It is precisely this range of moments that inspired the HAY Outdoor Market by Jasper Morrison Shop. .
A collection for better outdoor living
The HAY Outdoor Market by Jasper Morrison Shop is a collection of objects designed for outdoor living: folding furniture, cooking tools, a sun canopy, hammocks, and much more. It was created to inspire exploration and enrich time spent outdoors, both in planned moments and in more spontaneous ones.
To make time spent outdoors richer and simpler, whether in the garden, on the terrace, in the park, or farther away in nature.
Practicality, honest materials, and understated beauty
Each design created for HAY is united by the use of honest materials and a strong focus on function. This is true of the folding furniture, easy to store and made with lightweight, water-lacquered beech frames, as well as of the stainless steel objects designed for cooking or serving outdoors.
Practical and quietly beautiful, the collection perfectly reflects Jasper Morrison’s approach: objects that are straightforward, functional, and made to last. It is a vision closely aligned with his “super normal” philosophy, according to which objects should not demand attention, but naturally enhance everyday life through their usefulness.
It is an idea that can also be clearly seen in the collection’s most essential pieces, such as the steel bowls, the toaster pan, and the bottle carrier: objects designed for outdoor use, yet equally perfect for everyday life at home.
Texture, memory, and contemporary use
The striped textiles used for the furniture and accessories are inspired by traditional Basque patterns, a reference Jasper Morrison discovered after coming across a vintage fabric at a flea market. Made from 100% recycled polyester, they combine durability and practicality with a visual expression that is simple yet distinctive.
This detail, too, clearly reveals the character of the collection: familiar, immediate, yet never ordinary.
The idea of HAY’s founders
The project began with Mette and Rolf Hay, the brand’s founders, who wanted to bring their idea of democratic design into outdoor living as well, going beyond HAY’s existing range of outdoor furniture.
As Mette Hay, Creative Director of HAY Accessories, explains, the idea was to create something entirely new for HAY, exploring a field the brand had not yet entered and opening up to new audiences.
Working with Jasper Morrison
Inspired by the nostalgic usefulness of classic camping gear, Mette and Rolf Hay imagined a collection that could feel both familiar and new. That is why they chose to involve Jasper Morrison, whom they regard as a master of everyday objects, capable of making even the most ordinary things feel essential.
His London shop as well, known for its selection of simple, useful, and often anonymous objects, helped shape the character of the collection.
A flexible collection, for moments to share
Outdoor Market offers a flexible and open-ended way to create your own temporary outdoor setup, depending on how and where you want to spend time outside: in the garden, on an outing, by the water, or simply under a tree.
With objects designed for resting, cooking, and coming together, the collection lends itself to shared moments, whether public or private, urban or more secluded. It is a vision of outdoor living that brings together HAY’s design philosophy and Jasper Morrison’s design language: objects made for everyday adventures.
